This time however, it’s a beach resort that just does everything right. Looking for a gorgeous beach bungalow honeymoon getaway? Check. A family resort with tons of activities for the kids? Check. The Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is just that amazing. By now, you probably already know we have an obsession with the incredible island nation of Fiji, for its fantastic island-hopping, accommodations, incredible honeymoon options, and now we’ll show you why the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort will quickly become #1 on your destination list.

Explore the waters of Fiji with the experts

The name of the resort might sound familiar to you. The whole Cousteau family have been icons of the undersea world for decades, both in the exploration and conservation of the world’s oceans. This should give you an indication of the quality of the diving and snorkelling activities offered by the resort. The location has been chosen specially for its undersea beauty, and the services and staff are second to none.

The Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is the only resort in Fiji with a resident marine biologist on staff. Johnny Singh personally leads a wide variety of activities for you, using his background in marine biology to give you hands-on knowledge and experience. Whether snorkelling, learning to dive for your first time, or coming to see the beautiful Namena Marine Reserve soft corals in person, you will take home wonderful memories. In addition to the knowledge and great experiences you can get from the resort, the staff also give you the piece of mind that the fragile coral ecosystem is being maintained with the highest level of care.

There is no end to the dedication to maintain the highest standards of ecological care to ensure Fiji is beautiful and plentiful for future generations.

Your underwater experience here could be getting dive certified at the Cousteau Dive Center, or heading out on an advanced dive with the experts. It could also be snorkeling the incredible reef or taking a journey on the glass-bottom boat for an above-water exploration session of what lives below the water. This is a wonderful option for those who prefer to stay out of deeper water or for young children.

The details you need

Built on the site of a former coconut plantation on the island of Vanua Levu, Fiji, Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is one of the pioneering eco-luxury resorts on the planet, paving the way for a more environmentally aware, eco-tourism experience. Offering everything from weddings, private villas for honeymoon getaways, to full extended family vacations, the resort ensures everyone in your party, no matter the size, has the time of their life.

But wait, how can a great family destination be a perfect venue for a honeymoon? One big help is a careful design of the facilities. The children’s activities are all clustered in one area, the pools, waterslides, table tennis, giant chess, and more. This design means both a safer and easier area to keep an eye on the kids when you wish to spend some quality time together, and perfect to keep them out of the way of others, or yourself when you need a bit of couples time.

Speaking of couples time, the beachside spa and wellness bures are just what you need to slip into some deep calm and enjoy island time. We recommend the doubles Maucokona, a traditional Fijian rhythmic body massage. Also try the Koko Rapture while you are here, a body wrap of cacao and banana leaves while receiving a reflexology massage.  Once you have sufficiently loosened up, we recommend one of the complimentary small group sunrise yoga sessions to start the day off just right. Or schedule a private lesson for a bit more personal attention.

A Vacation the Kids Will Love (and will love you for taking them)

Multi-generational trips can be hard. Heck, even family vacations can have rough patches. We all have different desires, activities we love, and dreams of what vacation will look like. Striking the perfect balance to make sure everyone is happy is no easy task. And while Fiji is home to some of the most incredible adults-only resorts, if you’re bringing your family, the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is exactly the variety you’re looking for. If the whole family feels like sticking together for the day, start with a breakfast and a view of Savusavu Bay. The resort’s dining room is spacious and has locations set up especially to allow families to spread out. Savor the fresh fruit grown in the resort’s organic garden and don’t worry about picky eaters – the resort will happily accommodate any food requests or dietary restrictions. Fueled up for the morning, take off on any of the activities the resort offers as part of its all-inclusive packages.

If, however, your family is interested in different activities or the adults would like a day alone, the kids are welcome to the Bula Club, essentially the coolest kids day camp in Fiji. All stays come with a nanny for any children under 6. For kids 6-12, they’ll head off in groups of 5 with a “buddy.” The teens are also given a long list of awesome activities for adventures, learning, or relaxing.

The Bula Club operates on the principle of expanding a child’s horizons to help them better understand and appreciate the world around them. The club has its own building a short walk away from the main building. Here kids can swim, go down the waterslide 89 times, head out on the zip-line, or pick an arts and crafts project. Parent’s are welcome to join in at any time.

Each program is designed for a specific age group, thoughtfully taking into account interests and activity level. The Junior Chef Program is open to kids 6-12 where they’ll head into the resort’s organic garden to harvest produce. They’ll assist in preparing either lunch or dinner for the resort.

A nanny to save the day (or evening)

Small kiddos under the age of 6 are assigned a nanny who can join in and assist with family adventures, or take a young one back to the bula for naptime so the rest of the family can continue on with their resort exploration. This also means the nanny can take over after bedtime, so the adults can head to a romantic candlelight dinner by themselves.

Your accommodations on property

With plenty of room to spread out on the 17-acres, the resort is home to 25 bures, or bungalows. The smaller number of rooms means your experience here will be intimate and you’ll be well taken care of – no more fighting for a beach lounger! Your bures will either have a garden view, oceanfront, or a view over the incredible Savusavu Bay. King beds and private decks are some special touches that come with the thoughtfulness of Jean-Michel Cousteau.
