Not all of the best vacations require a passport. Some destinations within the United States are perfect for your romantic getaway. From the sunny shores of California to the history rich areas of New England, the United States has some serious gems to explore. Although some of our favorite special spots are far away from our home country, we love domestic travel too. We especially love domestic travel when it comes to finding the best spa retreats.

Why would I stay stateside?

We understand – the foreign destinations can sometimes have more appeal. It’s more of journey, a little more exciting and comes with more anticipation of a foreign culture, foods you’ve never had before, all new and unique experiences. But keep reading and you’ll see why these spa retreats are worth staying the United States for. Plus, sometimes domestic travel works out for the best. You can probably grab a direct flight, won’t have to learn how to order food in a language other than English, or fumble with foreign currency.  And maybe the best part of sticking around for a spa retreat is that it’s possible to do these trips if you only have a long weekend free.

So go ahead and take a surprise long weekend to treat yourself and your partner to a fantastic spa retreat at one of our favorites.

Top pick for beach lovers

Seagate Hotel and Spa – Delray Beach, Florida

Perched on the shores of Delray Beach in Florida lies the Seagate Hotel and Spa. A stunning hotel in a stunning setting is what will meet you here for your spa retreat. No need to race around town here – this hotel has enough to be your sole destination. Easily transition from breakfast on the patio under blue umbrellas with blue and white striped chairs to the beach-side pool. If the mood strikes, head to the ocean or just the sand for some beach volleyball. With six on-site dining options, Egyptian cotton linens, and free fitness classes, you’ll be wondering if you really have to go home.

Our favorite spa service: The Divine Indulgence couples massage

For 80-minutes you and your partner will enjoy the spa suite with side-by-side massages after a candle-lit soak in the bath. The bath water is skin softening with pink grapefruit, vanilla, rose, and cedarwood oils. A rinse in the Swiss shower will get you dinner-ready.

Top pick for families

Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa – Rancho Mirage, California

Just south of Palm Springs lies heaven on earth at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas. Not only is this resort great for couples, it has tons to offer for kids, so this could be an entire family vacation to a spa destination. The 100-foot water slide, the lazy river, a sandy beach pool, and a mini water park means the kids are going to be begging to head to the pool right after breakfast. However, once you have a private poolside cabana it’s no issue to spend all day, and the lazy rivers have no age limits. Omni Rancho will also deliver the kids a backpack full of activities to keep them busy. On request milk and cookies can be delivered as a bedtime snack on the night of your arrival.

The spa is worth the trip here alone. With spa entrance comes admittance to the spa pool which has a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains in Palm Springs. The pool is the ultimate relaxation and tranquil environment and even has underwater music! On non-spa days, adults are also welcome to the Azure Pool. This is an especially great spot to be for sunset.

Our favorite spa service: The desert citrus massage

Given that southern California is a huge grower of grapefruit, we love this massage option that sources locally grown produce. Grapefruit is said to promote circulation, increase energy, and soothe stress. Plus it smells heavenly and refreshing.

Top picks for East Coast charm

Mayflower Inn and Spa – Washington, Connecticut

If white patios with rocking chairs and leather loungers fireside in the library with a snifter are your idea of a great vacation, we have the perfect spot for you.The Mayflower Inn and Spa is as charming as they come. Two hours outside of New York City leads you to this resort and spa situated on 58 acres. The resort has much to offer in addition to its fantastic spa, which we’ll get into in a second.

At the resort, admire the garden with your feet in the soft grass in an Adirondack chair. For a little more activity take part in their archery lessons, private guided hiking, or a game of croquet in the lawn on property. The pool is perfectly set into wooded nature. Floating around while the birds soar overhead is perfect for a weekend of unwinding.

As the hotel’s tagline says, this truly is the “New England Good Life.”

Our favorite spa service: Private spa evening

As if the spa wasn’t lovely enough, the Mayflower allows you to have the entire 20,000 square foot spa for just the two of you for three and a half hours. This includes a rejuvenating scrub, warming massage, and a clay wrap. After, you’ll dine in the spa’s garden room. A post dinner dip into the spa’s beautiful indoor pool, jacuzzi and thermal sanctuary. Special gifts await your return to your room like chilled champagne, a personalized soundtrack and robes. We don’t think it gets more romantic than this unforgettable evening.
