Negril, Jamaica, is a beach paradise that thrives on tourism and once the sun goes down on this beach town, the nightlife comes alive. Most of the bars are located on the beach, but there are other gems for tourists that are a bit off-the-beaten path.
Live Music in Negril
For live music, go to Risky Business, Roots Bamboo, Alfred’s Ocean Palace, and Fun Holiday Beach located in Long Bay. For the West End, go to the Negril Yacht Club and Sunset Bar. Every night, you can find a live concert happening somewhere on the beach. If you’re unsure of where to go, ask someone who works at the hotel or a local on the beach.
Tourist Favorites for Nightlife in Negril
Rick’s Cafe is a lively bar by the seashore with its own pool. Once you spot the Tiki hut with American and Canadian flags, you know you’re at Rodger’s Bar. This is a great place for a Red Stripe or cocktails made with fresh, local ingredients. If you want to watch the game over lunch, Margaritaville is your best option.
Less “Touristy” Negril Nightlife
Every Sunday there is a party at the beach park on Norman Manley Boulevard until 2 a.m. There’s a DJ that plays hip-hop and reggae and the only lights at the party are from his DJ Stand. That means you dance in darkness under the starry skies. It’s a fun place to mix with the locals and have a few drinks. Parking is limited, so carpool if you can.
Mi Yard is open 24/7 and serves Jamaican food such as salt fish, roast tuna, plantain, and roast breadfruit. Eat and drink while listening to music on the Negril’s West End. There’s no dress code so go barefoot in your bathing suit if you want.
Montego Bay Nightlife
Nightlife in Montego Bay has something for everyone. Whether you want to get wet and wild, chill with smooth jazz and a martini or try your luck at the tables, you’ll find many ways to satisfy your late night cravings.
Wacky Wednesday
Stay out late on Wednesday night and dance the night away at the Jamaican block party called Wacky Wednesday. Located between the Hip Strip and town the party rages from 1 am to 5 am – just ask any local where it is. A lot of locals hit this place and a few fortunate tourists do too. There’s beverage service and a mean reggae beat to make it all come together for a wild , vibing night.
Margaritaville
Located at water’s edge, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville has it all. The club has a water playground like you would not believe. It has a 3-story water slide, water trampolines and water volleyball courts. The drinks can be rather expensive so bring lots of money and your swim suit.
Blue Beat Ultra Lounge
Looking for something more low-key? Try this blue-lit, upscale jazz and martini bar next door to Margaritaville. Themed music nights, live comedy nights and an unplugged music series featuring local and international musicians cater to your more elegant side. Lounge on couches and chairs under the stars on the open-air deck steps from the ocean.
Pier One
Pier One hosts live music at the edge of River’s Bay, featuring well known Jamaican Reggae stars. The concerts are full of energy and very loud. Happy Hour runs from 5 to 7 pm daily and Seafood Sundays showcase fresh conch, shrimp, scallops, lobster and fish. Great stuff!
Coral Cliff Casino
This casino is located at the heart of the tourist district on Gloucester Avenue. It has a unique waterfall on the façade, and while inside it’s a casino like most others, it can be a good way to spend a few hours after the sun has set.
Sunspree at Holiday Inn
If you brought the kids, checkout the stage at Holiday Inn Sunspree for nightly entertainment and family-friendly fun. Live music and performances vary, and they may feature a steel drum band, talented dancers moving to the beat of Bongo drums or costumed singers and dancers. Sometimes guests are even invited to dance onstage!
Ocho Rios Nightlife
When the sun goes down, Ocho Rios nightlife heats up! Embrace the 5 Rs: Roots! Rock! Reggae! Rum! Red Stripe!
Sunset Cruise
Several options are available for taking a cruise on the calm Caribbean while the sun is setting on the horizon. The ship captain makes the trip quite fun, blasting reggae music, trying to get the tourists to do Jamaican dancing with free flowing rum and Red Stripe beer. Once the catamaran arrives at its destination, the passengers can dive off the ship for a nice swim as the sun sets. Many include dinner with options like fresh fish, jerk and curry goat.
All-Inclusive Nightly Activities
Ocho Rios has many all inclusive resorts that offer nightly events for the guests. The variety is endless and ranges from bonfires on the beach, dance lessons, outdoor movie nights, karaoke, adult bingo and participating in popular game shows – Jamaican style. Looking for something more romantic? Book a massage for two on one of the resort’s private beaches. Go star gazing while the distant sounds of the hotel steel band provides a soothing soundtrack. Most have a variety of bars, clubs and lounges so take an afternoon nap and party until the break of dawn.
Nightclubs in Ocho Rios
Most of the clubs and bars are located along Main Street so they are easily accessible from the hotels and guest houses. Many of them feature specialty drinks in a souvenir glass with kitchy names like “Island in the Sun” “Sand in the Crack” or “Jamaica Me Crazy.”
Margaritaville is a popular well known chain that infuses island flavor with its international food and drink menu. They have three different venues and change the music lineup in each so there is something for everyone
If you want to get down with actual Jamaicans, check out Amnesia, which is an awesome Reggae bar and dancehall with affordable drinks, on a rooftop dance floor. The place isn’t chic, and doesn’t have any notable decor. Just a roof with a bar, sound stage and great vibes. Located near Amnesia is BiBiBips, a restaurant and club built cliff side above Mahogany Beach. There’s a deck to watch the sunset and on weekends there is live dancehall, Latin and Reggae music.
Looking for something more romantic? Try The Ruins, built around a real waterfall with live jazz nightly.
Feeling really adventurous? Go to the Lion’s Den across from Dunn’s River Falls. It’s a rum bar with a small dance floor where local musicians try out new music. Bonus: There is a jerk shack out back.
