Dear Fellow Traveler,
There are moments in travel that change us - journeys that don't just introduce us to a new place, but open our eyes to new ways of seeing the world. We believe our upcoming voyage to Colombia will be one of those rare experiences.
South and Central America have long held a special place in our hearts. Together, we've wandered the streets of Buenos Aires, trekked through the lush landscapes of Costa Rica, and soaked in the vibrant spirit of the Caribbean. Cindi's adventures have also taken her to Guatemala, Belize, Panama, Bocas del Toro, Isla de Providencia, Isla San Andrés, and many of the Caribbean's most captivating islands. Nate's interest in Colombia began with its intriguing history, and over time, our shared love of rich cultures, bold flavors, and untold stories has made this journey a dream for us both.
As your travel advisors and hosts, we'll be right there with you - ensuring every detail is seamless so that you can immerse yourself in the beauty, music, and warmth of Colombia. This isn't just a vacation; it's a journey into the heart of a country that will inspire, surprise, and stay with you forever.
Warmly,
Cindi & Nate Sanden
Prepare for a journey that will engage all your senses. Colombia is a country of vibrant colors, intoxicating music, profound history, and breathtaking biodiversity. AmaWaterways' AmaMagdalena joined the fleet in 2025 to sail the majestic Magdalena River, the "River of Life," a vital ecosystem still largely untouched by mass tourism.

You will be immersed in the soulful melodies of Vallenato and the infectious rhythms of Cumbia. Your voyage includes performances arranged exclusively for AmaWaterways guests: a Carnaval celebration on embarkation night, a jazz performance by local musicians in Mompox, and an evening cumbia performance by locals, so you don't just hear the music of Colombia, you feel it.

Our path is dotted with sites of immense cultural importance. We will explore the historic walled city of Cartagena and its UNESCO-designated San Felipe Castle, wander the island town of Santa Cruz de Mompox, a colonial gem "frozen in time" and famous for its filigree jewelry, and celebrate Barranquilla's Carnaval, recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

With only 30 staterooms for a maximum of 60 guests, the AmaMagdalena offers an uncrowded and truly personal experience, blending contemporary comfort, regionally inspired cuisine, and cultural immersion. Enjoy Latin American cuisine and Western favorites in the Main Restaurant, a pool on the Luna Deck, a fitness room, and a lounge with nightly music and cultural performances. Every stateroom has a twin balcony for watching the river go by.
Arrive in Barranquilla and board the AmaMagdalena. In the evening, a Carnaval celebration arranged exclusively for AmaWaterways guests brings Barranquilla's famous Carnaval, recognized by UNESCO, right to you.

Visit a local village along the Magdalena River on a guided tour. See the traditional crafts on display, taste local delicacies, and learn about daily life on the river.

Spend the morning on a walking tour of Santa Bárbara de Pinto, with its historic church and handmade crafts. In the afternoon, arrive in the island town of Mompox, where local musicians welcome you with an exclusive jazz performance.

Founded in 1540 and often called a town frozen in time, Mompox is famous for its filigree jewelry. Join a guided walking tour of its colonial churches and streets, and explore the surrounding wetlands, with chances to birdwatch at sunrise and sunset.

Bid farewell to Mompox and cruise one of the most beautiful stretches of the Magdalena, through the La Mojana region. Learn the story of cumbia, then enjoy an exclusive evening cumbia performance by locals.

Join a birdwatching tour around Magangué to look for birds found only in this part of Colombia. Later, tour historic Calamar, at the entrance of the Canal del Dique, by paola, a bicycle taxi for two.

Tour the historic walled city of Cartagena and the UNESCO-designated San Felipe Castle, then stroll the colorful Getsemaní neighborhood with its street art and local flavors.

Bid a fond farewell to the crew of the AmaMagdalena and head home, or continue on to Panama City with the optional post-cruise package, taking with you the rhythms, flavors, and memories of a truly magical journey.
