A German-style Christmas market day trip down to Cullman, Alabama. Wooden chalets, handmade gifts, German food, live music, and the whole park lit up after sundown.
Please note the day: this is a FRIDAY, December 11.
HOW THE DAY RUNS:
- 1:00 PM Eastern - we leave from Sportsman's Warehouse
- We stop along the way at the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, the world famous lost luggage store, always good for a browse
- It is roughly two and a half hours down, and Cullman is on Central time, so your phone jumps back an hour on the way
- Afternoon and evening at the market to shop, wander, and eat dinner
- We stay through sundown, when the whole park lights up
- Around 7:00 our time we head for home, so plan on a full day and a late evening
THE MARKET ITSELF: Cullman Christkindlmarkt, Depot Park, 107 Arnold St NW.
- Admission is free
- On the Friday we are there it runs 11 in the morning to 9 at night, Central time
- Over 60 vendors, German food and drink, and live entertainment
- Ice skating, a double decker carousel, and horse carriage rides
- Alabama's largest Ferris wheel, a 108 foot ride brought over from Germany
- The Weihnachtspyramide, which is the tallest Christmas pyramid in North America
- Parking around Depot Park is a mix of free lots, paid lots and street parking, so we will sort that out together when we get there
HOW THIS ONE WORKS: right now we are building an interest list, not capping a head count.
- Add your name below to tell us you are in
- There is nothing to pay and nothing to reserve today
- How many of us go is what decides whether we carpool, rent a van, or book a bus
- That same number is what sets the per person price for your ride down
- The moment those details are locked, we come back to everyone on this list first with the plan and the price
The more names on this list, the better this trip gets, so if you even think you might want to come, put your name down now. It costs nothing to be on the list, and it is the only way to be sure you hear first the moment the ride and the numbers are set.
