Charlottetown Excursions

ISLAND DRIVE AND ANNE OF GREEN GABLES

Spend an enjoyable day discovering the many fascinating sights that Prince Edward Island has to offer, including historic Charlottetown and the bucolic setting for Anne of Green Gables.

On this tour you will see/visit:
• Downtown Charlottetown
• PEI Preserves
• North Rustico
• PEI National Park, home of Cavendish and the Green Gables House
• Rustico Harbour

This tour begins with a memorable drive through historic downtown Charlottetown. See the many gorgeous historic homes, churches, and parks located on the south shore of Prince Edward Island.

We’ll make a tasty stop at PEI Preserves in New Glasgow, where you’ll be tempted by the company’s specialty preserves, honey, BBQ sauce, salsa, teas, and more.

Continue on to the coastal fishing village of North Rustico and the famous PEI National Park, home of Cavendish and the Green Gables House. This old farm site inspired L.M. Montgomery to create Anne of Green Gables, the beloved tale of a little red-haired orphan girl who captured the hearts of readers across the globe. Step back to a simpler time as you explore the place that was the setting for the enduring book. You’ll have ample opportunity to tour the homestead, sample homemade Island jams, and stroll the boardwalk overlooking the beautiful sandy beaches.

Your next destination is Rustico Harbour, where you’ll visit a traditional fishing village and learn about the history of the PEI fishery. Relax and enjoy the picturesque landscape on the drive back to the city.

You’ll be returned to the cruise ship pier at the end of your exhilarating day.

Sydney Excursion

THE BEST OF SYDNEY & SURROUNDING AREA

Enjoy a scenic drive along the beautiful shoreline of the Bras d’ Or Lakes. Pass through the historic communities of Boisdale, Christmas Island and Iona.

This tour includes:
• Alexander Graham Bell’s museum
• Highland Village Museum
• Baddeck Village
• Little Narrows Ferry
• Bras d’ Or Lakes Shoreline
• Photo opportunities
• Round-trip transportation
• Entrance fees

Our first stop will be the Nova Scotia Highland Village Museum, a living history museum and culture center that celebrates the Gaelic experience in Nova Scotia. The site features Gaelic language and related cultural activities, traditional crafts and chores, costumed animators, farm animals, thousands of artifacts and 11 period buildings.

Next it’s time to go through the scenic center of Cape Breton Island, touring to Estmere and then onto the Little Narrows Ferry (cable ferry less than a 2 minute ride), our gateway to the Trans Canada Highway.

Next we’ll make a brief stop at Baddeck Village with time for walking along the waterfront.

A Gaelic welcome to the “Highland Heart of Nova Scotia” awaits you in Iona, Cape Breton Island. Experience Nova Scotia’s Gaelic culture at one of many community events or at the Highland Village outdoor pioneer museum. View some of the most breathtaking scenery that this Province has to offer on the shores of the mighty Bras d’Or.

Next we will continue to the Iona Peninsula, located in the center of Cape Breton Island, almost completely surrounded by the magnificent Bras d’Or Lakes – Canada’s Only Inland Sea. The Bras d’Or is a basin that is one of the finest sailing and boating venues in the world. They separate Cape Breton’s Highlands and Lowlands. The Bras d’Or coastline abounds with wildlife and is particularly noted as a breeding area of the magnificent bald eagle.

Finally we have a stop at Alexander Graham Bell’s museum. This national historic site communicates the story of Alexander Graham Bell’s wide ranging interests and inventive work, much of it undertaken here at Baddeck, Nova Scotia. The site overlooks Baddeck Bay, on Bras d’ Or Lake, and Beinn Bhreagh, Bell’s summer home, where Bell pursued much of his scientific work.

Later back to the pier.

Halifax Excursion

THE SCENIC (SECRET) ROUTE TO PEGGY’S COVE — A CUSTOM TOUR

Peggy’s Cove is Nova Scotia’s most popular visitor attraction, but most who venture there are unaware of nearby coastal villages and vistas that are equally attractive, and rich in history. We’ll take you to Peggy’s Cove, of course, but by a route that few visitors ever experience.

This tour includes:
• Round trip transportation
• Scenic drive
• Hubbards
• Queensland Beach
• Boutiliers Cove
• The fishing village of Indian Harbor, home to Paddy’s Head
• Swiss Air Memorial – View of Peggy’s Cove
• St. Margaret’s Bay
• Peggy’s Cove
• Lots of amazing photo opportunities!

We’ll leave the port of Halifax and head out onto the Chebucto Peninsula, en route to Peggy’s Cove. Our exact route will vary depending on traffic and weather conditions

The Seaside village of Hubbards demonstrates a perfect scope into life in the northeast and the famous harbor life that goes along with it. Take a walk along Queensland Beach for a picturesque view and to truly soak in the lifestyle.

At the village of Prospect, a handsome coastal community surrounded by the ocean and lying next to a spectacular segment of the coastal barrens. If time permits and conditions are suitable, we’ll walk a short distance along the trail into the barrens.

West Dover provides an intimate, private exploration of the spectacular Peggy’s Cove Preservation Area. You can partake in an optional 500 yard (metre) hike into the heart of the Preservation Area for superb views of Polly’s Cove.

We’ll stop at the delightful fishing village of Indian Harbour, home of the Swiss Flight 111 Memorial and the beautiful peninsula of Paddy’s Head.

Along the way, we’ll head to the picturesque, rugged eastern shore of St. Margaret’s Bay, and, of course, Peggy’s Cove, famous for its lighthouse, its village, its rock formations, and its folk art. While you explore, you’ll likely see others from your cruise ship, but don’t make them jealous by telling them what they missed.

Wonderful trip to Peggy’s Cove and Margaret Bay. Our guide was excellent and lead us to some wonderful places.
Wonderful day–wonderful guide and vehicle, and perfect itinerary.
Our guide really made the tour a success. When our ship docked at a further away terminal, he managed to meet us at the ship so that we did not have to take a shuttle bus to the main terminal. He knew that we had an interest in photography and always pointed out areas that he thought would make a good shot. He took us to a quaint little deli so that we could grab a sandwich for lunch. He kept his eye on the tour bus traffic and scheduled things so that we were at Peggy’s Cove with a very small crowd. We hope to visit again some day and use him for another tour.

Transfer / Meeting Instructions

No Taxi Required

Specific pick up or taxi instructions will appear on your voucher after you purchase your trip.

Special Instructions
Please note: All tour times are local port times.
• Please be aware that some ships do not adjust to local time when in port. Halifax is on Atlantic time, so the local time may be +1 hour from ship time. Please double check with your cruise line. Best reference is your daily newsletter delivered to your cabin for port time information or your ships guest relations desk.
Our exact route and itinerary will vary according to the weather and traffic.
• In groups of 6, one traveler will not have a window seat.
• Water will be provided.
• Please notify us in advance if you’ll want to stop in a restaurant for lunch during the tour (lunch costs are not included in the tour price), as this will effect planning for the day’s activities. Unless otherwise requested, the lunch venue will be away from Peggy’s Cove, where the restaurants are typically very crowded and touristy.
• We recommend that you wear comfortable walking shoes. The short walks from the vehicle are on unpaved trails, with occasional uneven ground and the possibility of small wet spots.
• Nova Scotia has a maritime climate, producing weather that is changeable, cool, and moist. Temperatures on this trip will rarely exceed 75 F (25 C), and may be much cooler in the autumn. It is usually breezy (or windy) along the coast.
• Dress in layers, and remove or add them during the trip as required.
Restrictions
• This is a private tour, so if you wish to alter the itinerary “on the fly” it will often be possible to do so. We will try to be as flexible as possible.
• The tour vehicle is not adapted for wheelchair use, but if a wheelchair user (collapsible wheelchair, no scooters) is able to transfer to and from a minivan seat, the tour itinerary can be modified accordingly. There are accessible washrooms and restaurants along the route. The guide has experience working with limited mobility clients.
